Biography of Congressman Ben Quayle
Ben Quayle has deep ties with the state of Arizona. He is the fourth generation in his family to live and work in Arizona.
Quayle has a diverse background in both law and business. After graduating from Duke University with a major in history, a minor in political science and a certificate in markets and management, Quayle attended the Vanderbilt School of Law. After graduating from law school, Quayle moved from Arizona and was admitted to the California bar. In California, Quayle worked at a law firm and focused his practice on commercial litigation. In this position, Quayle obtained a unique perspective about the enormous costs businesses absorb in this litigious society.
Quayle realized that his interests were more in-line with the transactional side of the legal practice and moved to New York City to pursue a career as a corporate lawyer. Quayle was admitted to the New York bar and practiced in the area of securities and mergers and acquisitions for a large law firm in New York. In his practice, he gained global experience working on multinational transactions. He became well versed with the public markets and public financing, along with maneuvering within the regulatory framework that governs those markets. His experience in these fields taught him that more regulation is not the answer to properly functioning markets. Rather, smart and efficient regulation that protects investors while spurring growth and innovation is the answer to the financial markets.
Although Quayle was very successful in the financial legal community, he wanted to return home to Arizona, where he is the fourth generation of his family to live and work in the state. Upon returning to Arizona, Quayle was admitted to the Arizona bar and joined the firm of Snell & Wilmer as an associate and worked in its real estate transactional department. In his role within the firm, Quayle learned the importance of individual property rights.
Ben Quayle’s experience in the legal world was both informative and fulfilling, however, his entrepreneurial spirit guided him away from the legal practice and he set out to start a company of his own. Shortly after leaving the legal profession, Quayle and his brother, Tucker Quayle, formed Tynwald Capital. Tynwald Capital is an investment company based in Arizona that focuses on purchasing and operating small businesses. Tynwald’s first portfolio company was APG Security. APG Security is a full service security provider with operations in Arizona and the northeast. Ben Quayle and his brother partnered with the management of APG Security to expand its operations to Phoenix, Arizona. With this expansion, APG has brought jobs to Arizona and has given Quayle experience operating a small business. As a small business owner, Quayle knows how difficult it is to thrive in any environment, but especially during the current economic downturn. Quayle knows that high taxes and antibusiness regulations hurt small business owners and the people these businesses employ.
In addition to Quayle’s professional accomplishments, he is actively involved in the Phoenix community. Ben Quayle was a member of the Executive Council to the Phoenix Boys & Girls Clubs, a member of the foundation board of Phoenix Children’s Hospital, along with other civic minded organizations.
Ben is married to Tiffany Crane Quayle, an Arizona State University graduate. Tiffany is a Channel Account Manager for CA Technologies and is very active in the Phoenix Women’s Board of the Steele Children’s Research Center. Ben & Tiffany have a dog named Louie they rescued from the Wickenburg Humane Society.
During the 112th Congress, Quayle will serve on the Judiciary, Homeland Security and the Science, Space and Technology Committees.
