Biography of John Murphy from John Murphy for Congress

“I’ve lived in Pennsylvania most of my life. I attended St. Anne’s grammar school and graduated from St. Joe’s Prep in 1964. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from St. Joseph’s University and an MBA from Drexel University.

I was an adjunct professor in the MBA programs at Temple University, Rutgers University and St. Joseph’s University, and I am a past president of the Philadelphia chapter of the American Marketing Association.

Early in my career I was a high school history teacher. I served for many years on the negotiating committee and was senior delegate of the teachers’ union.
Later I worked for major companies; including Michelin Tire Corporation and a subsidiary of W. R. Grace. I was an independent management consultant for 14 years.
I guess you could say I’ve been politically active as early as 1952, when at age six, I pulled my red wagon filled with campaign literature behind my father as we campaigned for the “antiwar candidate” Dwight David Eisenhower who promised to bring our troops home from Korea.
I was politically active in the early 1960′s and was president of the Young Republican Club at St. Joseph’s University.
The escalation of the war in Vietnam caused a political rebirth and I became an active antiwar demonstrator during the late 1960′s and early 1970′s.

As part of the 2004 Nader for President Campaign, I represented Mr. Nader in a series of debates throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.

I worked ardently to help him achieve ballot access and spoke at his press conferences and meetings in Philadelphia.

I am one of the founding members of the Pennsylvania Ballot Access Coalition, which is a group of people representing all of the major “third parties” and independent candidates working for fair and equitable election laws in Pennsylvania.

I am a member of Amnesty International, the American Civil Liberties Union and a former Proclaimer of the Word in my parish church.

I live in Chester County, Pennsylvania with my wife Joan and two children Amanda, 20 and Andrew, 16.”
