Biography of Joe Vodvarka from Joseph Vodvarka

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I’m sure that after seeing the picture here that the thought going through your head is along the lines “this isn’t a politician.” My name is Joe Vodvarka and I have never served in public office before; I’m a small business owner and manufacturer of springs and wire forms, and I’m running for the United States Senate. Since I was a boy, I started working in my father’s factory learning the trade and worked my way up to starting my own company; over the past decade or so I’ve seen my fair share of business going overseas, but rather than sit around and say “that’s just the way it is” I decided to be proactive about the situation.

The reason that I’m running for US Senate is because America needs a Senator that vividly understands what manufacturers in this country are going through. The biggest problem that we face now is that we have no market for the products we manufacture in America and that is due to our current system of trade, which is free trade. The original intent from the politicians that got us into these trade agreements was that it was going to create manufacturing jobs in America; that it was going to be a huge selling opportunity to the rest of the world. However, since then it has been nothing but a job killer with 1/3 of the manufacturing jobs in this country lost over the past decade and a trade deficit with many of the countries it trades with!

When your competition from abroad can pay .20 to $1 an hour wages and doesn’t have to go through the government regulations that you do, but can still put that same product on the shelves in this country then there is something very wrong with the system. This system doesn’t encourage new growth in America, it encourages it to move abroad, and within the past decade the government has encouraged companies to move abroad to receive tax breaks! How often is this point ever brought up?

A possible solution is fair trade which would levy taxes on imports from countries that don’t have the same standards as us. This would also help to resolve another problem which is our crushing national debt; the taxes collected must be used to pay down the debt and used for that purpose only.

To put it simply, the greatest security that a person can have is to earn a good living and it is the duty of the government to provide a climate in which business’s may thrive and allow their citizenry to achieve a higher standard of living. As said in the Declaration of Independence, when the people have been put under a system with “a design to reduce them under absolute despotism” it is the “duty” of the people “to throw off such government and to provide new guards for their future security.” I am not promoting a revolution, unless it is at the ballot box!

What America needs now are new leaders in office, leaders that are of the people and for the people, not politicians who write laws to better their agenda and certainly not lawyers! If you believe that America needs a leader that is from the working class and has raised a family with the skills and knowledge he has acquired, then I’m your man.
