Biography of Mike McCalister
Mike McCalister is a retired U.S. Army Colonel, entrepreneur and businessman, university instructor of graduate business management, and conservative U.S. Senate candidate.
Colonel McCalister has 33 years total military service in the Army National Guard, Reserves, and Active Duty in both Enlisted and Commissioned Officer ranks. He served as the Deputy Chief of Training, Doctrine, and Education at the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM: Center for Operations, Plans and Policy) which leads Department of Defense planning against terrorists, and trains and oversees Special Operations Forces worldwide. Colonel McCalister has served on strategic Pentagon committees, including the Executive Steering Group for the Training and Transformation Initiative, which directed the transition of the Department of Defense into a 21st century fighting force focused on the global threats facing America today. He appeared before Congress as a Subject Matter Expert on national security and military readiness of all U.S. Special Operations Forces worldwide. He has vast experience working with other U.S. security agencies, foreign officials, and military leaders. Colonel McCalister served as the Assessment Chief of U.S. Special Operations initiatives in foreign nations, where he worked closely with U.S. embassy personnel to protect vital American interests.
Colonel McCalister also has substantial real world business education and experience. He has worked with physicians at biotech and healthcare companies to improve efficiencies in the healthcare system, is a licensed agri-business professional, and owner/operator of a tree farm in Plant City, Florida. In 2010, Colonel McCalister authored “The Right Future for Florida…And You,” a book that has been endorsed by roughly 50 highly credentialed, practicing experts in their field. Colonel McCalister’s book outlines serious real world solutions for improving Florida’s economy in the highly competitive global environment, as well as improving education and healthcare. His solutions for education include the endorsement of three university academic deans in Florida.
Colonel McCalister is a university instructor, and served as the Lead Faculty in a Global MBA Curriculum, teaching practicing, professional students about the Forces, Drivers, and Environmental Factors in today’s global economy, as well as global business operations, strategy, and policy. He has chaired Thesis Research Committees studying how to successfully compete against outsourcing, off-shoring and global competition. He has taught at Florida A&M University, NOVA Southeastern University, the University of Phoenix, and Everglades University. Colonel McCalister has been recognized for his work as a university instructor and served in numerous positions, including on the faculty senate and as a department chair.
Colonel McCalister holds a B.S. in Agriculture from Southeast Missouri State University, Ph.D. in Management from the Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio, and is a graduate of The Command & General Staff College, the Army War College Defense Strategy Curriculum, and The Air War College. Additionally, he has completed the Harvard University Program on Senior Executive Leadership.
Colonel McCalister is currently a candidate for the U.S. Senate. He is a political outsider, competing for the nomination against, primarily, three establishment Republicans. Colonel McCalister is an unapologetic conservative. His number one priority will be to get Floridians back to work by cutting spending, reducing the deficit, lowering taxes, and protecting our products and proprietary technologies and investments against unfair foreign competition. Colonel McCalister believes that Barack Obama and Bill Nelson are destroying our country with their reckless policies, and is frustrated that political insiders have done little to combat high unemployment, rising gas prices, and falling home prices. Colonel McCalister has one son, who he raised as a single parent; and his father, a WWII Veteran, lives in Bradenton, Florida.
If elected to the U.S. Senate, Colonel McCalister will fight the liberal, special interest driven agenda of Washington insiders. Having served 33 years in the U.S. military, he knows how to fight and win against today’s serious global threats. Colonel McCalister will be Florida’s strongest advocate for jobs, lower taxes, smaller government, an end to Obamacare, a secure border, and a strong military.
