Biography of Scott Wharton from Wharton For Congress
Scott’s hometown is Amanda, Ohio, home of about 700. Scott’s parents Dick and Nancy taught him the value of integrity, hard work, and perseverance, reinforced by the local community when he worked at his family’s hardware store. He proudly graduated from Amanda Clearcreek High School in 1976 and then from Ohio University with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
Scott participated in R.O.T.C at OU and then commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the United States Air force. Scott’s family has a long and proud military heritage with four generations serving in the U.S. military. One of Scott’s first assignments after commissioning was with the National Security Agency, where he was a computer systems analyst with VRK top secret security clearance. Scott was then asked to attend pilot training where he was assigned to the 6th MAS flying C-141 Starlifters at McGuire Air Force Base. He flew the 1985 TWA Hostage rescue and then proudly served in Operation Desert Storm. After 20 years of dedicated service he retired from the USAF.
Scott has been a pilot with Delta Airlines since 1989. He is currently a Captain flying B-737 aircraft. Throughout his airline career Scott has been a union member in good standing with ALPA (Air Line Pilots Association). For the last ten years he has owned and operated a working farm on the south side of Amanda with the help of his family and friends.
