Biography from Committee to Elect Michael L. Pryce MD—U.S. Senate, Ohio
Dr. Michael Pryce is a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Ohio. He is a practicing Orthopedic Surgeon and has been an Ohio resident his entire life except for absences for military service and schooling.
Dr. Pryce was educated in the public schools of Ohio in the Field Local School district. He participated in various sports, namely football, basketball and track. Theater played a large part in junior high and high school, playing many parts and being a regular on the stage crew. He enlisted in the United States Navy just prior to his graduation from Field High School. He took his basic training in San Diego, California and moved on to a short stint aboard the USS Sabine out of Mayport Naval Station in Florida. He moved on to his professional training in Naval Intelligence at Corry Field in Pensacola, Florida. He graduated 1st in his training level of 1,600 men and was sent overseas to the U.S. Army base on a Naval Tennant Command in Bremerhaven, Germany. His next duty station was on the U.S. Air Force base on a Naval Tennant Command in San Vito, Italy. He finished his tour of duty at the Naval Security Group Station in Cheltenham, MD. He was honorably separated in 1968 and was formally honorably discharged in September 1971.
Dr. Pryce is a United States Veteran. He served in the United States Navy in Naval Intelligence. In the 2010 Senate Race he was the only U.S. Veteran. There are other veterans in this race, and Dr. Pryce thanks them for their service.
He entered Kent State University in 1968 planning on a career in Radio and Television Broadcasting, where he was a member of the KSU sailing team. He transferred to the University of Akron in 1970 and graduated Magna Cum Laude in Natural Science in 1973.
He was appointed to the entering class of the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC in September 1973. In May of 1977, he graduated with the degree of Doctor of Medicine.
Dr. Pryce returned to Ohio to an internship in General Surgery at the Akron City Hospital, now known as Summa Health System. He took his orthopedic training at the Akron General Medical Center and the Akron Children’s Hospital. He was appointed to a Fellowship in Hand Surgery at Loma Linda University of Loma Linda California. Thereafter he began the private practice of orthopedic and hand surgery in Ohio. During his career, he was appointed to two Presidential Roundtables, one under President Ronald Reagan’s administration and the second during George H. W. Bush’s administration. He has belonged to the U.S. Senatorial Inner Circle in the past. He has been in private practice in Portage County for 28 years.
Dr. Pryce has achieved many goals in his life. He received a U.S. Patent #5327663 for a footwear device that compensates the common problem of flat feet. In kind, he began the Marathon Shoe Company to market the product, which has been acquired by the New Balance Corporation. He has small business experience running the Marathon Shoe Company as well as his own medical office, Stow-Kent Orthopaedics, Inc. He is a published author of several medical articles.
He has several hobbies including woodworking, computers, and amateur radio (N8FNF). He is an instrument-rated private pilot with 1,700 hours logged. He owns a 1967 Piper Cherokee Arrow, a four seat complex aircraft. He also owns a plane that he constructed, a Lancair 360, which is a two seat composite kit plane.
He served on the Portage County Airport Board from 2001 to 2009. He was the president of the Portage County Regional Airport Authority for 5 of those years which brought him into close contact and working relationships of the FAA, EPA, TSA, HAS, and the FBI. He was accepted into the FBI Citizens Academy, a citizen outreach organization.
Dr. Pryce authored the book Anathema! America’s War on Medicine. Over his 40 years in the medical field, he watched as various factions have nearly destroyed the number one medical system in the world in the name of greed and governmental control. This caused him to write the book that exposed the moves that took America from number one in the world to a dismal 37th in the World Health Organization ratings in 40 years. Part I of the book describes the unraveling of the American Health Care System and Part II gives a very straight forward plan for America to dig herself out of her medical woes. The book has received rave reviews on Amazon and Book Reviews and Medical Journals.
MEET MY FAMILY
Dr. Pryce and his wife of 31 years, Jo Ellen (Bittle) Pryce RN have lived in Hudson, Ohio for the past 27 years. Dr. Pryce has practiced orthopedic surgery in Ravenna, Ohio from 1983-1984 and in Kent, Ohio since 1984. Mrs. Pryce is employed as a nurse and office manager at his practice, Stow Kent Orthopedics, Inc. They have two daughters—Meredith and Allison.
