Biography of Kathy Boockvar from Boockvar for Congress
Kathy has dedicated her career as an attorney and mediator to helping Pennsylvanians protect their jobs, their Social Security, and their families. She began her career as a Legal Services attorney, representing low-income, disabled, and senior citizen clients, as well as victims of domestic violence, in Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Lehigh Valley.
Later, Kathy founded and maintained a small law practice for 11 years, representing countless workers, families, and small businesses in Pennsylvania, helping them with everything from jobs and employment to Social Security, from pensions and insurance to disability and estate planning. As a small business owner, Kathy understands the importance of fiscal responsibility, budgeting, and oversight. She has experienced firsthand the challenges that small business owners face: making payroll, keeping the bills paid, maximizing revenue, and assessing which expenditures are essential and which are discretionary.
From 2008 through 2010, Kathy worked for a leading non-profit organization as their Pennsylvania voting rights counsel, working to ensure that Pennsylvania’s election laws were enforced–fairly, effectively, and accurately. She also utilized her mediation training to help facilitate solutions among parties of differing perspectives.
Kathy has long been active on women’s issues. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of A Woman’s Place, a domestic violence organization that provides free support, education, and advocacy for victims of domestic abuse, their families, and the community. Kathy has done volunteer legal work for Wills for Heroes, which provides free wills and estate documents for firefighters and police officers. She is active in her daughter’s school and in her community.
Kathy is a graduate of the American University, Washington College of Law (J.D. 1993) and the University Of Pennsylvania (B.A. 1990), and has remained an active Penn alum, including interviewing new applicants. She is a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, United States District Courts, and Pennsylvania, New York, and Washington, D.C. courts.
Kathy lives in Doylestown, Bucks County, with her husband Jordan, their daughter Colette, who is in 7th grade in the Central Bucks School District, and their dog Zoie.
