Biography of Will Oatis from Will Oatis for U.S. Senate.

Born into a family of hard workers, Will Oatis learned the value of diligence and dedication early on. Born and raised in the small town of Silver Creek, Mississippi, his father was the Deacon at their family church. While his dad broke cultural barriers by becoming the Principal at the local Jr. High School, his mom rose through the ranks of the local paper mill by being a hard worker and remembering everyone’s name. Witnessing this dedication to God, family and country made Oatis the man he is today.

While still in high school, Oatis felt the calling to follow in his father’s footsteps of dedication, and decided to join the military. During college, Oatis worked hard to pay his own way while earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History at the University of Southern Mississippi. After the tragedy of September 11, Oatis was ordered to active duty.

During his deployments, Oatis served his country world wide, including three tours in Afghanistan. He earned a reputation as being a committed leader and hard worker. Oatis has received over 20 awards, including Soldier of the Year in 1992 and 1993 (Battery and Battalion Levels- C Battery, 3rd Battalion/83rd Field Artillery), Saint Barbara, Patron Saint of Artillerymen Award, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign \Star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Award, National Defense Service Medal Award, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal and Global War on Terror Service Medal.

Over time, Oatis witnessed a disturbing trend. Mississippi’s businesses were closing, our schools were failing to provide the education that our children deserve and people were struggling to make it from paycheck to paycheck. Oatis responded by creating a scholarship fund. He awarded 10 scholarships to students who demonstrated a commitment to their education and improving Mississippi. One such recipient went on to receive her doctorate.

As Oatis’ commitment to improving Mississippi grew, he has served in the community. He has done everything from volunteering at his church to helping Mississippians sift through debris post- Hurricane Katrina. He even took on the tough task of searching for hurricane victims. Still, he felt compelled to do more.Will Oatis is running for U.S. Senate because he is fueled by a passion to make not only his homestate stronger but to do the same for our nation.

Oatis has plans to reform our national education system so we can supply our children with the tools they need to become the next great generation of innovators and entrepreneurs. His strategic development plan offers incentives to grow our small businesses economy while still supporting large corporations across the country – putting unemployed residents back to work.

Oatis’ plan will help make the United States a place where our young people are the best and the brightest in the world – a nation where after completing school, they are greeted with a booming economy that entices them to develop their careers and talents.

Will Oatis learned the value of diligence and dedication early in life and is now ready to devote his passion into making Mississippi and his nation as great as he can.
