Biography of Ron Rushing
Childhood and Early Adult Life
Ron grew up in a quaint, small, north Florida town called Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island. He lived in a very modest home with his parents, two brothers and two sisters. After graduating from Fernandina Beach High School in 1981, he began working in industrial construction. His desire was to go to college, but he couldn?t afford to attend so he worked for three years trying to save his money. Ron began as a laborer and eventually moved into the electrical craft. During this time, he was able to save some money so that he could begin college, but quickly realized he would also need assistance by obtaining student loans as well. His parents were not financially able to pay for college but they constantly encouraged him to make college a goal, save his money and prepare to go.
In 1984, Ron was accepted at Carson-Newman College where he completed most of his basic courses. In 1985, he attended the University of Central Florida (UCF) where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, the focus being on Computer Engineering. During his college days, Ron also made some extra money by working at gas stations on the weekends. During his last semester at UCF, Ron was offered a job as an engineer with DuPont at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina. Soon after, the DuPont contract was switched over to Westinghouse, but Ron decided to stay on as an engineer. A year later and while working a full-time job with Westinghouse, Ron was able to complete his Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Ron is a family man who is dedicated to preserving the conservative values and principles of this foundational institution of society. In 1989, Ron married his sweetheart of 5 years, Elisabeth Riker Rushing. In 1993, and while still working at the Savannah River Site, Ron and Beth had their first child Ryan. It was then that Ron decided that it would be best for his family to move back to Florida so that Beth could stay at home with Ryan. At this time, Ron took a job with Harcourt Brace in Orlando, Florida working as a Telecommunications Manager. In 1996, Ron and Beth had their second child Emily.
Ron remains very active in the lives of his wife and children. He enjoys snow skiing, boating, fishing, snorkeling and traveling with his family. Sports is a big part of his family`s activities as well. Ryan plays football and baseball. Emily played basketball and softball for a while but has acquired a new delight for the arts (painting, drawing, & photography). Ron counts it an honor to have coached Pop Warner Football for his son`s team for several years and currently delights in supporting his children`s many activities.
