Biography of Larry Maggi from Washington County, PA

Larry Maggi is currently serving his second term on the Board of Commissioners of Washington County and currently serving as the Board chairmen. He is proud to have been born, raised, educated and worked most of his life in Washington County. He and his wife Mary Jeanne resides in Buffalo twp. They have four children.

Commissioner Maggi served proudly in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1971. He graduated from California University of Pa. with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Prior to being elected Commissioner in 2003, he was the Sheriff of Washington County for six years, elected in 1997. He served for 24 years with the Pennsylvania State Police as a State Trooper. The last 10 years of his career with the State Police he served as a Criminal Investigator, Troop B, and Washington, Pa.

Commissioner Maggi is active in his Church, Claysville United Methodist Church in Claysville, serving on the Board of Trustees, Lay Speaker, liturgist and a Sunday school for 18 years. He has a passion to help the veterans of Washington County and is involved in the following veteran’s organizations:

  • Marine Corps League (Paid up for life member)
  • Sons of the American Legion
  • American Legion Riders

  • Camp Director of the Pennsylvania American Legion /State Police Youth Week camp, held yearly at Scotland School for Veterans Children

  • 2002-Senator John Heinz award for performance as the Washington County Sheriff
  • 2002-Washington County Bar Association, winner of the liberty bell award for his contributions in law enforcement
  • 2004-Canonsburg Italian Heritage Society for contributions to Washington County
  • 2007-Boy Scouts of America, Mon Valley District, Good Citizens award
  • 2008- California University of Pennsylvania-Medallion of distinction award
  • 2009- Awarded Marine Corps Leagues S/Sgt Karl Taylor Award
  • 2010- Inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of fame, Washington/Greene County Chapter

Commissioner Maggi believes in Washington County and that it is a great place to work, live, play and to raise families. He is committed to keeping Washington County on the fore front in jobs, low taxes and quality of life issues and to keep our agricultural and country charm.
