Biography of Lee Bias from LEE FOR WV
Lee Bias is running for the 3rd Congressional District of West Virginia for the House of Representatives. He was born August 31, 1966 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Huntington. A district native from a working class family, Lee has learned the important lessons of a strong work ethic and perseverance. As such, Lee is well-versed in the challenges and opportunities facing West Virginia and is committed to providing solutions that work.
Lee graduated from Barboursville High School in 1984, achieving his Eagle Scout award from the Boy Scouts of America. He went on to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida to study Aeronautical Engineering. During his time at Embry-Riddle he participated as a cadet in the US Air Force ROTC program with the USAF ROTC Detachment 157. Lee returned home to attend Marshall University, graduating with his degree in psychology in 1989. Wanting to further serve his community, Lee graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1992, earning his diploma in nursing, and became board certified as a Registered Professional Nurse, a credential he keeps to this day.
During his studies, Lee served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT, and then as a Paramedic, initially for the Green Valley Volunteer Fire Department from 1989 to 1994, and worked for Cabell County EMS from 1990 to 1995. During this time, he also provided his expertise and served as a volunteer member of the Marshall University Emergency Medical Service, and also served as a member of the Cabell County EMS Dive Rescue Team while working for CCEMS. Lee also worked for Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority from 1991 to 1994 and 1998 to 2003. He started as a Paramedic, and came back to help them to start their Critical Care Ground Transport program as a Critical Care Ground Transport RN. Lee also worked as a Flight Nurse for two different providers during these years.
In 2001, Lee earned his Masters Degree in Nurse Anesthesia and Health Care Administration through Charleston Area Medical Center School of Nurse Anesthesia and Marshall University College of Graduate Studies, allowing him to fully operate as a Board Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. With this designation, he is currently working in Huntington, WV as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and has tirelessly worked in numerous charitable pursuits.
With his distinctive professional experience and leadership abilities, Lee currently serves as the Chairman of the Government Relations Committee and is a past Vice President for the West Virginia Association of Nurse Anesthetists. He is also a past elected member of the Resolutions and Bylaws Committee for the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and has served with the AANA as the Federal Political Director for the State of WV.
Lee has spent countless hours fighting for health care issues that benefit all citizens of the Great State of West Virginia. As your next Congressman for West Virginia District 3, Lee will continue to fight to ensure that Medicare will be properly funded, and that proper access to care will be a priority issue.
