Brad Wenstrup was elected in 2012 to represent the people of Ohio’s Second Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. He brings experience as a doctor, Army Reserve officer, Iraq War veteran, and small business owner to help Congress tackle the economic and security challenges facing the nation.
Brad supports balancing the federal budget by cutting government spending, reforming federal retirement programs, and reducing taxes and regulations on employers so they can invest, grow, and hire. As a doctor, he supports repealing the President’s health care law and replacing it with market-based solutions that protect the doctor-patient relationship.
In the 113th Congress, Brad serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, where he is working to strengthen our military and national defense, help our returning service members transition to civilian life, and support southern Ohio’s veteran community.
A Cincinnati native, Brad graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1980. He earned a medical degree as a podiatric surgeon and later established a private practice in Cincinnati, treating patients for the last 26 years. Brad has served in the U.S. Army Reserve since 1998, currently holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In 2005-06, he served a tour in Iraq as a combat surgeon, and was awarded a Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge for his service. During his time in Congress, Brad is fulfilling his Reserve duties by treating patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda.
Brad and his wife, Monica, reside in Cincinnati.
Biography of Brad Wenstrup from Wenstrup for Congress
Dr. Brad Wenstrup’s life has centered on hard work, service, and sacrifice. As a doctor, combat surgeon and conservative activist, Brad Wenstrup has a deep understanding of the issues facing America.
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati and going on to earn a medical degree, he established a private practice in Cincinnati and has been treating patients in Southwest Ohio for over 24 years.
In 1998, seeing signs of freedom being threatened, Wenstrup accepted an officer’s commission with the U.S. Army Reserve, serving in the Medical Service Corps. In 2005, he deployed for a year of active duty in Iraq where he served as a Combat Surgeon with the 344th Combat Support Hospital. For his service and actions in Iraq, Wenstrup was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge. Wenstrup continues his service in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Following his deployment to Iraq, Wenstrup saw a need for strong conservative leadership in Cincinnati. In 2009, Wenstrup built a strong grassroots coalition and ran for Mayor of Cincinnati. Since 2009, Wenstrup has continued actively supporting the war against terror and reducing the size of government while opposing legislation such as Obamacare.
Being involved in the community has always been important to Wenstrup. He volunteered for 14 years as part of the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters organization. Additionally, he is currently a Board Member of Boys Hope/ Girls Hope, member of the Cincinnati Rotary, and the Founder and President of Thank America First Foundation.
