Biography of John Ulstrom from Ulstrom for Congress

My name is John Ulstrom, and there are many reasons and experiences I have had that I feel qualify me for the office of US Congressman. My most relevant experience is the fact that I am a retired US Navy Reserve Warrant Officer. I rose through the ranks from a Seaman Recruit to Chief Warrant Officer 3.My experiences ranged from serving in the US Navy Ceremonial Guard in Washington DC to participating in three wars, Vietnam, Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. I believe the training in leadership, the assignments I received and the people I worked with, and for, have prepared me well for a position in the US House Of Representatives.
While serving in the Navy Reserve, I also worked for the US Postal Service as well as three other government agencies and a few government contractors. I retired from Federal Employment with twenty-six years service. I also worked another seven years for government contractors as a merchant seaman. I have a total of nearly 34 years working on workroom floors or main decks of ships for government and government contractors.

I have seen many ways costs could be cut in government spending. While my positions gave me clear view of the waste and mismanagement, they also gave me too small a voice to change the way things worked. If I am elected, I would use my new, larger voice, to try to correct what I perceive as ways of saving taxpayer dollars. When I was a young third class petty officer back in 1968, I often heard our senior Chief Petty Officers say “Give the taxpayers their moneys’ worth today”. I don’t ever recall hearing that phrase as a Federal Employee.

Among my already listed qualifications for running for office, I feel I have the four C’s I believe necessary for being a good Congressman. Courage, Committment, Compassion and Common Sense.

Additionally, I am a school bus driver at the DeLeon ISD as well as a substitute teacher and substitute cafeteria worker. I am the Assistant Fire Chief of the Desdemona Volunteer Fire Department. I attend the First Baptist Church of Desdemona.

I am a multi-gallon blood donor. I am a Life Member of the Eastland, Texas VFW, the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association and an annual member of the Military Officers of America Association.
