Biography of Tony Foriest from the Foriest for Congress Campaign
Anthony “Tony” Foriest is a long time resident of Graham, NC. The son of Annie and Mark Foriest, Tony grew up in Alamance County and attended school in the Burlington-Alamance school system. It is this connection to this community that first inspired Tony to run for Congress as the Democratic nominee looking to represent the 6th Congressional District in North Carolina.
Having graduated from the former Central High School in Graham, Tony considers himself a product of his environment. After receiving his high school diploma, he served in the US Army for three years before completing his undergraduate education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in economics. He later furthered his education by completing his MBA in 1994 at Elon University.
Tony spent 24 successful years with the Xerox Corporation in numerous capacities. Some of his roles with Xerox included Internal Control Manager, Senior Account Manager and Supply Business Specialist. In 1999, Tony retired from Xerox but continued working extensively in his local community and home church, First Baptist Church in Graham.
Tony has already established his qualification and desire to serve this community as he previously served in the NC Senate from 2006 to 2010, representing District 24 (Alamance and Caswell counties). Upon his 2006 election, Tony was quickly identified as a well-qualified leader and given extensive responsibilities overseeing several major Senate committees.
His current community projects include serving an advisory member of the Elon Board of Visitors, American National Bank as well as the Board of Deacons at First Baptist Church. Tony previously demonstrated his leadership abilities as a board member of several other organizations that include the Alamance County Friendship Center, the Alamance County Arts Council, Democracy NC, the United Way of Alamance County, the NAACP and the Alamance County Citizens for Education. Furthermore, Tony has also worked extensively within the Democratic Party in the past as chairman of the NC Senior Democrats and as a member of the NC Democratic Party executive Committee. He also spent two terms as chairman of the Alamance County Democratic Party.
