I grew up on Long Island, New York in a small town called Baldwin. Fifty years ago Long Island was similar to the way Charlotte is now – a safe, friendly, family-oriented community. I received Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior in 1981, and have been passionate about Bible study and involved in Christian leadership ever since. I also began working in the family insurance business that same year. I married my beautiful wife, Theresa in 1988, and our family grew with the addition of my son Michael in 1991 and then we welcomed my daughter Rachel into the world sixteen months later. In 1995 we moved to Charlotte area to be a part of a great community. I served as an Elder and a Co-pastor of our local church for about ten years.
In 2001 my local homeowners association ran into deep financial debt. Feeling that my expertise could help, I served as the President for several years. Through leadership and implementation of new fiscal procedures, we were able to reverse the debt and now have an operating surplus and a reserve account. While Washington’s debt crisis far exceeds our small homeowners association (by about $16 trillion), the principles are the same. Lack of oversight and poor planning need to be replaced by sound financial policy and enforced accordingly.
As an insurance professional, I’ve sold millions of dollars of commercial insurance, and in the process saved my clients millions of dollars. Negotiating savings is ingrained in me, and our country needs to make dramatic cuts in its spending habits. The Constitution spells out what the federal government should (and should not) be involved in. As your representative, I would hold Congress accountable to stay within their constitutional limits and in the process we would shed trillions of dollars of spending on programs that are not authorized.
In 2007 I added Series 7 and 66 licenses so that I could serve as a Financial Adviser in addition to being an insurance agent, and the following year launched an insurance consulting firm. During a four day silent retreat in 2008, I felt inspired to develop a video that teaches people how to read and understand the Bible, and by the end of 2009 I had done enough of the background work to begin production in 2010. By the end of the year, “The Bible Is Living Energy” (or simply, “Living Energy”) rolled off the presses. In 2011 I began working on a book, “Tea For Three – What Every American Needs To Learn About The Tea Party Before It’s Too Late”, and it was while doing the research for that (soon to be published) book that I discovered the depth of the economic mess that this country is in. Hundreds of billions of dollars being wasted every year – little to no accountability for those who were spending it. President Obama’s own forecasts called for the national debt to grow at least an additional $7 trillion dollars over the next ten years -and that’s based on rosy, optimistic scenarios that have little chance of coming to pass. Unless Washington is stopped in its tracks NOW, by people like me, the national debt will swell to over $20 trillion dollars and more likely to $40 or $50 trillion. It is simply not sustainable and while no one can predict exactly what the other side of a complete economic collapse would look like, I can guarantee you that we will all be wishing that someone did something about it before it was too late.
The good news is that we can send a message to Washington and to the world that America has seen the error of its ways by sending Representatives (like me) that understand that the federal government needs to completely restrained to operate only within the scope of its Constitutional authority and who won’t settle for anything else. Let me fight the battle for you at the heart of the place where the change needs to happen. In 1994 the country elected a bevy of new congresspersons (including Sue Myrick) who fought the battles of that day to the best of their ability. It’s time to bring those troops home and send in the next wave of dedicated people who will complete the task of taking our country back from the micromanagement of Washington and return the power to the states, where it belongs.
