Biography of Jon Gauthier from Jon Gauthier for Congress

JON GAUTHIER, 49, longtime Charlotte resident and conservative businessman, is a leader in his field, recognized by the Charlotte Business Journal and the National Association of Board Certified Advisory Practices (NABCAP) as a Premier Advisor in 2011 and as a Top Scoring Wealth Manager by Charlotte Magazine in 2010.

Jon was selected by the Charlotte Business Journal’s 40-Under-40 in 1999. He is currently a Member of the Board of Directors for the Charlotte Economics Club, an affiliate of the National Association of Business Economists, and just completed two terms as Board Chair for Charlotte Chamber Music.

Jon, the seventh of fifteen children, was raised in Northern Michigan in a very close-knit rural community. Jon holds a B.A. and Master of Public Policy from the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan. He began his public service as a Budget Examiner in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), in the Executive Office of the President during the Reagan Administration. After several years devoted to advocating conservative fiscal policies during President Bush Sr.’s Administration, Jon culminated his Executive Branch service as HUD Secretary Jack Kemp’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy Development.

His path continued on Capitol Hill as Chief of Staff for US Representative Nick Smith, a Member of the House Budget Committee, again advocating principles of fiscal restraint. He completed his tenure on the Hill as a Senior Staff Professional for the House Committee on Appropriations responsible for a $25 billion dollar budget.

As State Director for the Fannie Mae NC Community Business Center from 1996-2006, Jon spent ten years advocating responsible home ownership and rental opportunities. Jon joined Fannie Mae before they purchased subprime loans and worked with industry partners to fight predatory lending practices. Jon left the company in 2006 as this became increasingly difficult.

Jon is currently a Wealth Manager with Ameriprise Financial and he is the Author of Embracing Goodness, a book on overcoming personal tragedy. Jon and his wife Mary Anne (former Performing Arts Editor for Charlotte Taste Magazine) are active parishioners of Saint Matthew Catholic Church and have three children. His oldest daughter Laura (19) is a Freshman at the University of Notre Dame; Melissa (17) is a High School Senior at Charlotte Catholic High School and youngest, Jon Philip (9), is a Third Grader at St. Gabriel Catholic School.
