Early Years
- Grew up in Cabarrus County in the town of Kannapolis, NC
- One of four children, his mother, Johnette, was a nurse, and his father, William, owned and operated Whitley’s Funeral Home (a family business that has served the people of Cabarrus and Rowan Counties for more than 90 years
- Worked at family business from age 14 after school, on weekends, and during the summer through his college years

- Graduated 3rd of 323 from A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis
