Dan Barry is a lifelong resident of south central North Carolina and has been civically active in the Weddington community for years. As a successful businessman, Dan brings a deep understanding of how main street business operates, grows, and meets pay roll. He brings a principled and deep fiscal expertise to the challenges that face North Carolina.

He and his wife, Leslie, and their three children, Jill, Ford, and William, are very active in the community and the region. Dan has always had an interest in public service. After being elected to the Board of the Lake Providence Home Owner’s Association, Dan became deeply engaged in Weddington local issues such as land use planning, public safety, and roads. He has been involved with the Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Planning Board regarding the renovation of abandoned property. In 2009, Dan was elected to the Weddington Town Council where he serves as Mayor Pro Tem.

While serving as Mayor Pro Tem, Dan has demonstrated his proven skills as a problem solver, consensus builder and true fiscal conservative. Working with the Town Council, Dan oversaw a multi-million dollar city budget, that controlled spending and held the line on taxes. Dan led the effort and worked with County Officials and staff for the allocation of water and sewer to under serviced western Union County. Dan worked with concerned citizens and tax payers for the preservation of locally controlled fire service. As the MUMPO Alternate, Dan worked with the regional planners on transportation challenges facing this region, bringing a focused long-term plan that will create greater connectivity to the area.

Dan has served as an Adult Sunday School Teacher and is Past Chairman of Pastoral Deacons and currently serves as an Elder at Siler Presbyterian Church in Wesley Chapel.

Dan has served on two national Boards of Directors: Agents for Change, with the Financial Services Round Table, working to streamline the availability of insurance products and services across state lines; and is a current member of the board for the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting. AALU engages in the legislative and regulatory environment to protect and preserve the advanced uses of Life insurance for the benefit of clients and the community.

A native of Charlotte, Dan attended local schools until the 11th grade. He completed high school education at The Asheville School in 1984. Dan graduated from the College of Charleston in 1988, with a degree in Political Science and Minors in International Economics and International Studies.

He currently is a Regional Vice President with Principal Financial Group.
