Lee Terry Congressional Candidate Nebraska District 2
Congressman Lee Terry is honored to serve the people of Nebraska’s Second District and represent the place he was born, raised, and has always called home. During his time in Congress, Terry has strived to advance Nebraskans’ interests and increase the quality of life for all Americans. Amongst his many efforts, Congressman Terry’s top priorities have included balancing the budget, reducing our nation’s dependence on hostile regimes for energy, and reforming our government to be more effective, responsive and much more responsible.
Congressman Terry’s work for the people of Nebraska started long before his time in Congress. After graduating from Omaha Northwest High School, earning his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and receiving his J.D. from Creighton University School of Law, Terry did legal work in civil matters and served as a member of Omaha’s City Council. During this time, he held the position of Omaha City Council Vice President for two years and later led the Council for two years as its President.
Congressman Terry currently serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The committee has a wide jurisdiction and is responsible for legislative matters dealing with the supply and transmission of energy, telecommunications, and interstate and foreign commerce – amongst other topics. After years of extensive committee work and research on information transmission technologies, Congressman Terry’s peers saw his proficiency in the subject and at the start of the 112th Congress, they elected him the Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee of Communications and Technology. In addition to these posts, Terry is a member of the Energy Committee’s Subcommittee on Energy and Power and Oversights and Investigation.
Congressman Terry’s approach to the American energy landscape is one that can be best characterized as “strength in diversity.” He believes that an energy economy built upon numerous sources of energy production is a major first step towards American economic prosperity and tightened national security. The Congressman believes that we should decrease our reliance on foreign sources of energy and take advantage of what is here: countless opportunities for backyard-sourced American energy. If we fully utilize our country’s resources of coal, petroleum, natural gas and better develop our wind, hydroelectric, solar, and nuclear power production, it will create millions of American jobs, and establish uninterrupted and reasonably-priced power for all our country’s fifty states.
Outside of crafting legislation, votes, and committee work, Congressman Terry is the Co-chairman of the Impact Aid Coalition, a member of the Republican Main Street Partnership, and as the Chair of the Congressional Caucus to Fight and Control Methamphetamine. He has been named a “heavyweight” in the telecommunications and media policy fields in the 111th Congress.
While Congressman Terry’s demanding schedule keeps him working long days and nights in Washington, DC, once each week’s votes are over, he looks forward to being back in Omaha with his wife Robyn and their three sons Nolan, Ryan, and Jack.
