Virginia Candidates for POTUS: GOP

Virginia requires that candidates collect petitions for ballot access. They also require that a minimum number of signers must be collected from each Congressional District. The Party must certify the names on the petitions and information the state election officer of the person(s) that have qualified for ballot placement.

The Republican Party only certified the following two candidates for the Presidential Preference Primary:

Because of this issue Governor Rick Perry filed a complaint in the Virginia Eastern District Court, in Richmond, seeking injunctive relief. He filed this complaint on December 27, 2011. On January 4, 2012 Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Jon Huntsman filed a “MOTION to Intervene” thusly joining the Perry suit.

Update January 9, 2012: U.S. District Judge John A. Gibney, has ordered that the local electoral boards, be directed by the state board, are to refrain from mailing out absentee ballots, until after he makes a running this Friday.

If the court runs in favor of Governor Rick Perry or any members of the suit the following names could be added to the ballot.

Newt Gingrich (R-POTUS)

Jon Huntsman (R-POTUS)

Rick Perry (R-POTUS)

Rick Santorum (R-POTUS)
