“Cain, Gingrich Debate Lincoln-Douglas Style”
The Woodlands, Texas, Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich engage in a 90 minute discussion, some would call it a debate, over entitlement programs. Their topics were about Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security done in the setting of “Plenty of All American Apple Pie, Coffee and of course Tea.” This was truly more of a discussion than debate as they talked about how to correct problems that existed in each program and how they would remedy each program. This event was hosted by the Texas Patriots PAC.
The Republican debates have been lacking information as the candidates have had to give snippet answers. Last night’s Cain Gingrich “Debate” allow one to see more of the inside of the two candidates and get a better understanding of their mindsets, not to mention a more detailed answer to topic.
They maintained the Reagan eleventh commandment though out the program, engaged in gentlemanly banter, and drove home their points in a setting and style that was most enjoyable and without rigidity. If someone is looking for quick answers this was not the “debate” for them to watch.
This format would make for an interesting all day debate between the existing top candidates. (see below) I must be said that this format would drive the media nuts trying to cover it; however those that watched would most likely walk away with a real understanding of each candidate.
If you missed it but would like to see the “Cain, Gingrich Debate Lincoln-Douglas Style” it runs almost an hour and forty minutes. It is worth the time. C-SPAN may be rerunning it one of their television channels.
