Israel Defence, Iran, Gaza

Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, is reportedly continuing to press senior government ministers to support an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. This is a matter that remains divisive to Israeli people. Israel has turned up the heat on Iran as of late.

On Wednesday at Palmachim Air Force Base Israel test launched a ballistic missile. The test was supposed to have been a Jericho 3 missile, which is a ”surface-to-surface” missile with a range of 3000 to 7000 kilometers. This is a weapon that Israel has never officially admitted to having.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) were involved in F-16 drills over Sardinia. They were simulating striking targets. IDF announced a drill in the Tel Aviv area in order to simulate attacks with chemical agents and rockets. This is according to a Sydney Morning Herald report on November 4, 2011.

The Guardian says that the Kuwaiti newspaper al-Jarida reported that leaks of the missiles and training drills may have been leak by the former heads of the Mossadm Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, and the Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic intelligence agency.

The Guardian states “Netanyahu is said to believe that the two, Meir Dagan and Yuval Diskin, wanted to torpedo plans being drawn up by him and Ehud Barak, the defence minister, to hit Iranian nuclear sites.”

Defense Minister Ehud Barak said today that he is proposing that they wait for the IAEA report to be released so that the world will understand the international threat that Iran poses. He went on to explain that Israel had to be “proactive” in their foreign policy.

Meanwhile with all this going on the IDF was forced to intercept ships that were headed to the Gaza Strip. The ships that were attempting to run the blockade of the Gaza Strip. The blockade is in force to prevent weapons from reaching militants.

With the possible launch of defensive missiles from Israel to Iran or even an air attack of Iran, to curb the possible development of nuclear weapons. It is within the interest not just of Israel but its neighbors to prevent weapons from entering the Gaza Strip.
