Biography from Ricky Gill for Congress via email request.

Ricky Gill is a native of San Joaquin County who was born and raised in Lodi, California. The son of immigrant parents, Ricky is a small business owner, a family farmer, and a former member of the California State Board of Education whose story speaks to the power of the American dream. In recognition of his campaign’s unique potential, the National Republican Congressional Committee in August 2011 inducted Ricky into its Young Guns election program as an “On the Radar” candidate.

Ricky has played an integral role in his family’s small business, which employs 60 people in the San Joaquin Valley, for several years. From his early involvement with the agricultural side of the business to his later role in ownership and management of a diverse enterprise, Ricky understands that small business is the engine of economic growth and job creation in this country. He has served as a member of the California State Board of Education, as an adviser to California’s Secretary of Education, as co-chair of the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission, and as a board member of the Lodi Boys & Girls Club. Ricky graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, and will soon complete his Juris Doctor at Boalt Hall, the law school at the University of California, Berkeley. He has worked for U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) and the Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions, for the Sacramento Kings, and for the Oakland Athletics. He speaks Spanish.

Past Party Affiliation: Ricky has been a registered Republican since the time he was eligible to vote.

Past Campaigns: This is Ricky’s first run for elected office. However, he previously was appointed to the California State Board of Education by Gov. Schwarzenegger, and confirmed by the California Senate.
