Obama to Withhold Grandma’s Check
Finally Obama is openly acting like a backroom Chicago politician and he doing it with 70 million possible voters. That is the number of checks that he is saying may not be sent out on the August 3, 2011 unless Congress increases the debt ceiling. Obama must be planning to set on the revenues that will be coming into the federal coffers and not spending any money once August 2, 2011 passes.
Obama
With upwards of $2 trillion in spending cuts and $2 trillion in tax increases over 10 to 14 plus years, depending on who’s numbers you use, looking like they are shot down, what is a President to do? It appears that Obama has ordered up a Chicago-style solution. Threaten the elder, retirees, and others that are depending on checks from the federal government next month.
Let the old and poor think that that without everyone coming to Obama’s side and agreeing with him checks will be cut off. His thought must be that the elderly and they are the ones with the political clout will force the congress to agree to his increased spending and taxing plan.
House Senate Dems
It has been more than 800 days since the Senate last produced a budget. They received a House budget blueprint months ago and have yet to send a counter proposal out. Senator Reid seems to only have been able to get anything though the Senate when they had 60 votes.
Over in the House, Pelosi seems to be positioning herself to be the Savior of the country. She will either claim credit for the outcome of negotiations or claim that she tried to stop the GOP and/or the TEA Party.
House Senate GOP
“The president has presented us with three choices: smoke and mirrors, tax hikes, or default. Republicans choose none of the above. I had hoped to do good, but I refuse to do harm. So Republicans will choose a path that actually reflects the will of the people, which is to do the responsible thing and ensure that the government doesn’t default on its obligations,” McConnell said.
On the House side, Boehner and his members are opposed to increasing taxes on the job creators. However they are pushing real spending cuts before if any debt increases.
Voters
Gallup polling from July 7 – 11, 2011 shows that Republicans are against the debt ceiling by 60% with 46% of Independents opposed. Only 39% of Democrats support voting for an increase in the debt ceiling.
Now the remaining question is what will the Senior citizens do? Do they go after the GOP to get them to cave to higher taxes, increased spending, debt and continued failed economic policies? Or will they go after the Obama and the Dems to force them to cut a deal with the GOP that will rein in spending and put brakes on rising unemployment?
By law Social Security check have to be paid out; however, by law Obama may choose what day to send them out.
Obama is lying and he knows he is lying. The money for the checks will be there and he is playing political games to try to get his way. Instead of, just once, showing some leadership and coming up with a substantive plan of his own, all he is capable of doing is demagoguing and, essentially, acting like a 6 year old who is going to take his ball and go home if he doesn’t get his way. This guy isn’t just a bad President, he is totally pathetic.
Really? Obama hasn’t shown leadership and a plan of his own? He’s pretty much given Boehner and Cantor EVERYTHING they wanted, but the GOP “leaders” are saying, “screw you, we still won’t negotiate.” Obama is the adult in the room and the GOP leaders have been acting with petulance and demagoguery … all for the sake of protecting the wealthy and screwing the poor and the middle class. Meanwhile, if there’s ANY failure in these negotiations, it’s the failure of both sides to address military spending — which could be cut in half and we’d still more than triple the military spending of China, the world’s #2 top spender on defense.
