Obama Fundraises as Texas Burns
Texas has been under a state emergency since December 2010. Governor Perry has requested assistance from FEMA, which has been refused. As of Tuesday, May 03, 2011 there have been more than 9,000 fires across the state; that have burned more than 2.2 million acres. Using “Online Conversion” 2.2 million acres = 3 437.5 square miles, which is more than 3 times the land area of Rhode Island.
At present there are currently 210 of 254 counties under burn bans because of fires. Yet President Obama’s Administration will not assist the state. However the President could fly into Texas for fundraisers on May 10, 2011. Austin the tickets were $1,000.00 per person, they did sell a few to students for $44.00. Dinner tickets “cost more than $35,000 per person and more than $50,000 per couple, with the money split between Obama’s re-election campaign and the Democratic National Committee.”
Texas currently has 2 republican US Senators, 20 more House members and only 12 House members that are Democrats. The last time Texas voted for a democrat for President was Jimmy Carter 1976, and since about 1994 there has not been a statewide elected democrat. This has to make one question if the President is penalizing Texas for not voting for democrats.
Texas needs to continue to act in the best interest of its citizens. Governor Perry should direct resources to protect private property, business and churches, next should be local and state government property and assets. Let the federal property assets be protected by the federal government. Maybe then FEMA may realize that token help is not help.
The “Texas Seed Bill” 1887, was vetoed by Grover Cleveland, he wrote in his message to the Congress on his reason for the veto that “The friendliness and charity of our countrymen can always be relied upon to relieve their fellow citizens in misfortune.” Since the President is not a small government President, it appears that he only wants to take money from Texans. We would ask that you take a few minutes to help them and give to a local charity.
If you decide to help there is always the usual groups like the Salvation Army and The Red Cross. However ask at your church, and see if they are doing anything. If not, see if there is a local group in Texas that may need assistance.
