Biography of Jon Barrie from Jon Barrie for Senate Campaign Committee
For many years Jon has wanted to make New Mexico his permanent residence. Three years ago he was able to make his wishes come true and now resides in West Albuquerque. Jon Barrie has been a citizen activist all his life and is a devout Christian.
A Vietnam veteran, he enlisted in the United States Air Force right out of high school and was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service, Vietnam Campaign medals, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit award. Jon is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
While in the service, Jon completed numerous Non-Commissioned Officer maintenance and management courses and some college courses. After his discharge, Jon continued his education by earning a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Aviation Management from Columbus University. And, while working full-time, he completed pilot training and worked for numerous aviation companies in pilot and management positions. He served 11 ½ years with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and six months with the U.S. Forest Service. During his FAA employment, Jon completed 26 management, operations, human relations, and technical courses and holds numerous FAA pilot and mechanic certificates. A strong believer in education as a lifelong pursuit, Jon completed courses that qualify him as a Homeopathic Practitioner.
Active in civic affairs, Jon is a volunteer for Junior Achievement of New Mexico and a past member of the American Heart and Stroke Association. He earned a certificate of completion from the Toastmasters International Speech Craft Program in Communication and Leadership, as well as the Toastmasters International Distinguished Service Certificate. He received the Dale Carnegie Reporting and Highest Achievement Awards, earned a Total Quality Management Certificate from the Provo, Utah Chamber of Commerce and a Certificate of Achievement from the Weber County, Utah Sheriff’s Department.
Jon Barrie’s chief motivation for public service is his grandchildren. His 11 year old twin Granddaughters’ developed a slogan that is very true “He loves the USA just like he loves his granddaughters” Jon wants a better life for them. He was a parent of a special needs child and will donate ½ of his senatorial salary to children with disabilities in New Mexico.
