Biography of Mike LeBarre from Mike LeBarre for Congress
In the late 1890′s the roots of my family came to Hollister and over the years five generations have called the Central Coast and Valley home.
My maternal great-grandparents, Frank and Rose Amsler, lived in Hollister all their lives. Their daughter, Ellen, married her high school sweetheart Robert “Bob” Arthur. His parents Martin and Alice, moved to Hollister and later to Watsonville. Both Martin and his son Bob served on the USS Helena. Martin, as a Marine during the Boxer Rebellion, and Bob, in the Navy as a Petty Officer 1st class during WWII. Until retirement, Bob worked at the Moss Landing and Moro Bay P.G.& E. power plants and Ellen as a 4th grade teacher for the Alisal School District. My paternal grandfather, Charles LeBarre, moved to Watsonville after serving in the Army Air corps in WWII. He was awarded the bronze and silver stars. His wife, Doris, still lives in the same home where they raised their family. My parents, Mike and Kay, earned their masters degrees in business and marketing and have always been involved in their communities.
In the early 1990′s I came to Salinas when my grandfather became ill. After he passed away, I stayed to help my grandmother. During those years, I attended college, worked in the semi conductor industry, construction, and as a prototype machinist. Currently I am a full time father and earn my living in agriculture for a California based laboratory partnering with farmers, ranchers, and vineyards throughout the Central Coast.
