Biography of Walter Schumm from the campaign to elect Walt Schumm
Walt has been married for 31 years to Jean Schumm. Together, they have five children (ages 27, 25, 21, 19, 16), all of whom attended or are attending Oldham County Schools. The four oldest are either attending, or have graduated from, the University of Kentucky.
Walt, Jean and their children spend much of their family time enjoying the outdoors; Walt is an avid hunter and fisherman. They are also involved members of Southeast Christian Church.
Local Businessman
Walt currently manages a residential development, owns and runs a construction and Licensed Real Estate business (Oldham/Shelby/Henry Counties) and is proud to be surviving the worst housing economy since the Great Depression.
Walt is a graduate of Penn State University (B.S. in Logistics). He is a member of the Greater Louisville Board of Realtors. In addition, Walt is a local farm owner, operator and producer.
Involved Community Member
Walt currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Oldham County Board of Education, which is responsible for the education of nearly 12,000 students. Some of his duties in this position include managing a $110 million general operating budget and completing building projects valued over $100 million.
He and his wife Jean are co-founders of Operation: PARENT, a non-profit dedicated to educating, equipping, encouraging and engaging parents of teens and pre-teens.
Walt served as Booster Club President of South Oldham High School. He provided them with 10 years of volunteer service, and he helped raise over $750,000 through concessions, sportswear and media sales for student athletes’ sports programs.
Walt is a former Elder and Chairman of Finance and Personnel at Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church and an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
