Biography of Gene Jeffress from Arkansas General Assembly
Senator Gene Jeffress serves District 25, which consists of Calhoun and Union counties and
part of Ouachita County. He has served in the Arkansas Senate since 2003. Previously, he
served two terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives.
During the 88th General Assembly, Senator Jeffress serves as the chairman of Agriculture,
Forestry and Economic Development. He also serves as a member of several legislative
committees including Arkansas Legislative Council, Joint Budget, Joint Retirement and Social
Security Systems, Joint Energy, and Senate Education.
His legislative priorities during the 87th General Assembly included retirement system
improvements for the Arkansas Local Police and Fire Retirement System and Arkansas
Teacher Retirement System, educational programs and licensure for professional bail
bondsmen, and accommodations for students with sensory disorders.
Prior to his service in the legislature, Senator Jeffress was a public school music teacher.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Arkansas at
Monticello. Currently, he serves as the Minister of Music at Fairview United Methodist
Church. Civically, he is a member of the Lions Club, the Louann Chamber of Commerce and
the local Rural Fire Department.
He and his wife, Cynthia, have two sons and a daughter and several grandchildren.
