Department of Redistribution: Time has come?

“Tax the rich” some would say that it has a nice ring. Do not stop with just money. If progressives think that that is the way to proceed they should apply that thought to everything.

The United States does have a progressive income tax structure. Now could be the time to equalize all on the board. We should include everyone to be fair. We need to start where we have the most information ready and at hand.

There are around 44.2 million people on food stamps. Should it be fair that someone in state A were to get more than someone in state B, no. Answer:  all states should give the same amount to everyone. The state that is spending more should send that money to the states that are not spending the same amount so everyone gets the same, after all it is fair.

Official unemployment shows around 13.4 million out of work while actual unemployment is estimated around 23.9 million. Should it be fair that if you worked in one state you draw more than someone that worked in another state, no. Answer:  we do the same that we did with food stamps, after all it is fair.

Approximately 65 million people are on Social Security and/or SSI. Not everyone is drawing the same amount. That is just not right on so many levels. To make it fair everyone should draw the same amount of money, after all it is fair.

Government employees are paid different salaries or wages. This too is unfair. It is not right that the Secretary of a Department is paid more than the janitor. Everyone should make the same amount, after all it is fair.

Your child is not happy with that D on their report card. That should be easy to correct, after all they are in that class, and everyone should have made the same grade. Everyone should get the same grade, after all it is fair.

The worst one yet is that a teacher, firefighter, policeman, or other civil servant should make more than another regardless where they live.  If a state is paying their employees more they need to stop, NOW. They must cut the pay and benefits and send that extra money to other states so that those employees may make the same amount, after all it is fair.

Now that we know what is fair, we look at what is wrong with that fairness.

Food Stamps: Simple fact is that someone in New York City is going to pay more for the same food that someone in Jackson, MS would pay. So it is not fair that they would get the same amount.

Unemployment: It does cost more to live in one area as opposed to another. It is not fair that some who choose to live in one state over another should receive the some amount. That amount should be set locally based on factors that each state wishes to take into account. It is their money that they are spending.

Social Security or SSI: Payments are based on what was paid, in accordance to what someone had in income. So yes, some should receive more than others. They were told that they would receive a monthly amount “X” based on payments of “Y” derived on income made. SSI is to assist those that were not so fortunate. That was the contract and therefore it should be honored.

Government employees: Employees should be paid based on position. That position should have some value otherwise the one that may occupy it may not be qualified.

Civil Servant: This is a local decision; it is based in part on what amount of remuneration is required to find someone to take this position. The local government should know what the costs are to live in an area, what the risks if any and other factors that employees will consider.

Grades or GPA: What is being said when you are out to make the system fair so that everyone is equal. We begin to teach mediocrity. That will not be fair to anyone, be they students, parents or teachers.

What do students think about redistribution when they are asked to redistribute their GPA to those that have a lower GPA?  Why would they object?
